The Gen 1 Touareg is one of the most capable vehicles nobody expects: locking centre and rear differentials, a low-range transfer case, and a chassis it shares with the Porsche Cayenne 955/957 and Audi Q7. Most of what holds it back off-road is ground clearance and exposed underbody — both fixable.

Note on bumper fitment: the Gen 1 had a facelift in 2008. Our pre-facelift bull bar covers 2002–2007 and the facelift version covers 2008–2010 — the front-end shape changed, so these are not interchangeable. Check your model year before ordering.

Where most builds start: a 2-inch lift for tyre clearance, then engine and fuel tank skid plates, then rock sliders once the vehicle sits higher and the sills are exposed. Past 2 inches of lift you'll want the subframe drop kit and control arms to keep driveline geometry in spec.
